About the Farm
Son Felip and Algaiarens are two adjacent farms that make up the 2500 acres of our regenerative agriculture project, located just north of Ciutadella, between the iconic beaches of Algaiarens and Cala Pilar, on the island of Menorca.
Three families of farmers and the technical team (Agroassessor) work together on the estate to develop an environmentally, socially and economically productive agricultural system based on the production of local, traditional produce of great nutritional value: ancient Xeixa wheat grain, extra virgin olive oil, almonds, honey, melons and watermelons, cattle, pigs, sheep, and chickens.
The regeneration of the agricultural terrain based on holistic management, keyline design and permaculture is the essence of this project.
Our key ingredients for a healthy & nourishing Ecosystem
Olive and almond trees, xeixa wheat grain and melons, grown in Keyline Design.
With a holistic approach, Keyline Design works with the natural patterns of the land to increase water retention, thereby deepening the layer of topsoil and restoring the fertility of the soil for maximum production. In a Mediterranean island where water is scarce, Keyline Design plays a major role in ensuring the sustainability of the farm.
Pastured livestock and other farm animals.
Cows, pigs, sheep and chickens all contribute to create compost, aerate the soil, encourage earthworms, reduce weeds, sanitize pastures, and clean out the forest undergrowth. Daily movement and fresh forage guarantee quality meats and eggs.
Beekeeping.
Bees help pollinate our fruit trees and forests, help maintain the island’s biodiversity by pollinating our native plants, and provide delicious honey. Among others, we produce French honeysuckle honey, a very unique variety of this rare flower which gives our honey its distinguishing flavor. In Spain, French honeysuckle is grown only in Menorca and Cádiz province (at least to our knowledge) as a way to fix nitrogen to the soil. The red fields of French honeysuckle make some amazing and very unique landscapes in early May.
